12:00 PM - 2:00 PMKHL Room
Timed a week after the anniversary of Kristallnacht.  We would read in advance an extract from Fred Katz's book that focuses on the warning signs of the arrival of Fascism.  Our discussion will bring out parallels to what is happening today and what we can learn from the past.   We will supplement with 1 or 2 contemporary short stories that portray members of a threatened minority group and how they react.   Example: "Where to Hide in a Synagogue" by Karen E. Bender from her collection of stories, "Counterpoint," in which 2 women members of a congregation are tasked with creating a plan to protect their temple from hate crimes (published in 2018).   This sometimes hilarious, but sobering and most timely reflection on what has happened since attacks on synagogues, churches, mosques in the USA have increased.
