12:00 PM - 2:00 PMKHL at CHC
We have all found ourselves at some time in a situation where a person makes an anti-Semitic, racist, or sexist comment.   How to respond?   In Hortense Calisher's "Old Stock", 15-year-old Hester faces this dilemma as she observes adult hypocrisy and insensitivity by an elderly Christian, snobbish spinster, but also among her fellow Jews.
In Richard Stern's wry story, "Wanderers," another aging Christian woman sees the Jews around her through a warped lens.
Join Gail Lipsitz on Saturday, May 19 at noon to discuss these two short stories, which deal with the timely themes of stereotypes, loneliness, and how perspectives evolve through individual relationships. Copies of the stories, authors' bios, and background material on the figure of "The Wandering Jew" are available now in the Kol HaLev room at BMWPC.
