Literature at Lunch

Saturday, May 8, 2021 26 Iyyar 5781

12:30 PM - 2:00 PMvirtually
The next virtual Literature and Lunch gathering will be on Saturday, May 8,  12:30-2:00 p.m. Join Gail Lipsitz to enjoy some of the treasures of contemporary Israeli Poetry, in translation.  Starting in 1910 with the first generation of poets born in Eastern Europe and Russia, who immigrated to the land that became the State of Israel, we'll continue with writers born in Israel, and then sample the work of today's new poets.  We will hear secular, Orthodox, feminist, Mizrachi, and Palestinian Arab voices.  You may recognize some of the venerable Israeli poets like Natan Alterman, Leah Goldberg, Rachel, Zelda, and Yehuda Amichai.  You will also get to meet several outstanding poets whose names and writing you have probably not encountered.  A link to the selected poems will be posted with this announcement next week.  Please try to print them out, read them before our meeting, and choose those that you are most eager to discuss.
