B'nai Mitzvah Program

Jewish “Coming of Age” for 12-13 year olds and their families

"Coming of age" is a big deal. If navigated skillfully and consciously, this time can be meaningful and wholesome for all involved, parents as well as children. It is a time of identity formation, values clarification, reflection on big questions, and understanding ones place in the Jewish story.
Kol HaLev is committed to helping each family craft a meaningful, purposeful Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Ideally, families arrive at this stage after completing Sunday School classes, during which relationships with peers are formed, and families have established themselves as members of the Kol HaLev community. Our clergy, Emily Stern and Cantor George Henschel will help your family experience the true joy of coming of age in the Jewish tradition, helping each family craft a meaningful, purposeful B-Mitzvah service.

You must be a KHL member in good standing to enroll your child in the B'nai Mitzvah Program

The only assigned text is the Kol HaNeshamah Prayer Book (Siddur for Shabbat and Holidays). You will need to purchase this as soon as possible. It will be used for class, as well as by your student for preparation for and during their B'nai Mitzvah ceremony. They will also need a notebook designated for the B'nai Mitzvah studies for notes to bring to their meetings with me as well as in class.
