“People of the [prayer] book.” A Guide Through Shabbat Services and the Reconstructionist Prayerbook
This is a class for those who’ve asked, “What’s going on…what’s in this book…or, what does it mean?” For those who want to engage more fully and participate with family and friends in services, who want to understand what the prayers and songs (and Judaism!) are about, Rabbi Geoff and Cantor George will lead a class that is designed for both knowledge and practical skills and comfort that will enhance your experience of Jewish life. The first part of each session will be familiarization with Hebrew -- key words and phrases that provide the keys to the kingdom. In the first class, we will explore blessings and the blessing formula. The program will culminate with a celebratory Shabbat evening service that we all can understand, fully participate in, and find meaning in.
Dates: to be announced
All sessions are held in the Kol HaLev room of Brown Memorial Woodbrook Presbyterian Church, 6200 N. Charles St.
There will be a small materials fee, and we’ll encourage everyone to purchase and own a copy of the prayer book we use.
Please RSVP to Rabbi Geoff (443-956-9462 or gbasik@comcast.net).
